Some useful notes
What is Shared Hosting?
A shared web hosting service or virtual hosting service refers to a web hosting service where many websites reside on one web server connected to the Internet. Each site "sits" on its own partition, or section/place on the server to keep it separate from other sites. This is generally the most economical option for hosting as many people share the overall cost of server maintenance.
In a Shared Hosting environment, many different clients share the same server and the same resources. while each client on the shared hosting server has their own limit on certain things such as storage space, allowed email accounts, allowed bandwidth per month, allowed FTP accounts, the same Apache server, MySQL server, and even physical memory are shared.
In the case of shared hosting, Ekkum takes responsibility for managing servers, installing server software, security updates, technical support, and other aspects of the service. Our shared hosting typically uses web-based control panel system - Plesk. Plesk control panels support both Linux and Windows Platforms.
Advantages of shared hosting:
Shared hosting is a popular, economical and resourceful solution for many clients. Because you are sharing the resources, it is possible to use the server's hardware and resources to its full potential, translating into affordable web hosting for the client.
Another advantage of shared web hosting is that the client is responsible for little, if any, server maintenance or management. Ekkum manages the server for you, so things like routine maintenance, tuning, and upgrades are handled for you.
Difference between Dedicated Web Hosting and Shared Web Hosting?
As described earlier, Shared web hosting means a number of small to medium-sized users upload their websites and "serve" them up to the Internet from a single, shared server. This is a popular option for beginners, individuals, small and/or new business, or organizations such as non-profits with limited budgets. The shared web hosting option is the best choice when the user does not expect much traffic and doesn't need to store space-hogging media files (audio, video, animations, etc.).
As the name suggests, dedicated web hosting means each website is on a single, dedicated server, shared with no other website under any conditions. This is the option to take when a user expects to get a large amount of traffic and/or needs much more bandwidth then available in a shared hosting package. Dedicated servers can handle volume traffic with greater ease, and will be required if you need complex web applications, secure information exchange and highly customized activities at your website.
Dedicated servers are perfect for those businesses that have crucial security concerns about the way they acquire, store and use customer or other confidential information. E-commerce sites are a good example of this. If your business is involved in E-commerce, then a dedicated server hosting is the way to go.
